  • Dr. Michael Mina, Professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health says quick-turnaround COVID-19 tests taken at home may be pivotal in curbing the coronavirus pandemic
  • Dr. Mina said in a recent interview that these point-of-care tests serve as backup plans "should anything go wrong with the vaccines"
  • Mina said these rapid antigen tests are highly sensitive and can readily detect persons that are infectious. He added that the lack of ready access and the delay in getting results makes the PCR test ill-equipped to curb the pandemic efficiently
  • This comes as President Joe Biden announced last week that employers should mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for their workers or have them undergo weekly testing, a move that could drive increased demand for COVID-19 rapid antigen tests
