  • In the wake of the pandemic in early 2020, businesses closed their doors and employees were asked to stay home to control the spread of the virus. However, instead of workers returning to work now that vaccines are readily available, the opposite is happening
  • Employees are now more than any other time in their lives willing to throw it all away for many reasons. From the fear of catching COVID-19 to pandemic stress, many factors are pushing employees to consider quiting their jobs to give their lives a new sense of purpose
  • According to an August survey of 752 executives by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, about 88% of employers say they are seeing a higher turnover than normal as employee engagement is dwindling. Remote workers also share somewhat similar sentiments, with many saying they'll rather not return to working from their offices even if their employers require it
  • About 42% of 2,482 people polled by the Conference Board last month revealed that they would not return to the office for fear of catching the virus, up from 24% that expressed that concern in June
  • These realities are making employers more comfortable with the idea of hybrid work. According to a research from Nicholas Bloom, an economist at Stanford University, employers have increased the number of days they plan to let their workers work from home post-COVID-19 by 18%
  • Consequently, the pandemic will inevitably leave its mark on how the workplace operates for years to come, and employers and workers alike are bracing up for these realities
