Italy Mandates COVID-19 Health Pass For all Workers

  • The Italian government has issued an order mandating COVID-19 health pass for all workers, beginning October 15
  • The move comes as a measure aimed to increase COVID-19 vaccinations and curb further spread of the infection in the country that has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic
  • According to Prime Minister Mario Draghi, employees in public and private sectors will need to demonstrate proof of vaccination, a recent COVID-19 test, or recovery from the virus in the last six months
  • The "Green Pass" order covers 14.7 million private sector workers and about 3.2 million government workers
  • Health Minister Roberto Speranza said the Green Pass would be required to access workplaces and indoor leisure activities, including dining and visiting the museum
  • Speranza said workers that defied the order will be suspended with no pay, but will not be sacked
