About the Training

Become proficient in the knowledge and skills required to become a clinical or medical travel surveyor/consultant for Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA). Learn about GHA Accreditation Standards 5.0 for Medical Travel Services (clinical and medical travel surveyors) and GHA Standards 1.0 for Certification for Excellence in Medical Travel Patient Experience (for medical travel surveyors only). The GHA surveyor conducts a thorough evaluation of the medical travel care continuum (MTCC) processes and operational performance according to the requirements of the GHA Accreditation Standards.  

During the training, you’ll acquire the skills to prepare, conduct, report and follow up a survey (onsite and virtual) that establishes conformity with GHA’s standards and strengthens the policies, protocols and services provided to medical travel patients. You’ll also be trained to conduct gap assessments and training on GHA standards and best practices.

Requirements for Participation in the Training

Educational Background
Clinical Surveyor/Consultant Requirements:    
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) or equivalent.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN) or equivalent.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) or equivalent.
  • In addition, a master’s degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred.
Medical Travel Surveyor/Consultant Requirements:
  • Preference is for a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field related to healthcare, hospitality or business.*

    *There may be some flexibility based on the applicant’s experience in medical travel.
General Knowledge and Experience
Clinical Surveyor/Consultant Requirements:    
  • Five years of recent experience, including three (3) years of direct clinical experience in the appropriate health care setting(s).
  • Knowledge or experience in various components of a hospital and health care system (i.e., medical staff, quality improvement, medical records, infection control, etc.).
  • Contemporary knowledge of and experience in health care operations, clinical practice, use of performance improvement methods to assess organizational performance, and medical travel industry trends and best practices.
  • Recent experience as a consultant to health care organizations may be considered.
Medical Travel Surveyor/Consultant Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the medical travel industry, preferably working in or managing a medical travel program (international patient services department).
  • Thorough understanding of a healthcare facility’s medical travel operations.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development of protocols and procedures for improving medical travel patient experience.
  • Understanding of marketing and business practices related to medical travel.
